What carries a group far is not enthusiasm but the same set of rules.
Shi is about command. Water within the earth: strength hidden, not displayed. The judgment opens with the army moving by discipline — without it, a crowd is merely many people. Discipline is not about controlling people; it cuts the cost of hesitation in each person — when everyone knows the next step, the formation moves fast.
It adds: the army requires a mature leader — auspicious. Young ferocity wins a battle but cannot bear a long campaign. Command is restraining your own excitement, ordering what must be done, and giving up the fights that need not happen. Only those who can discipline themselves deserve to discipline others.
Practice Set three rules that may not be broken for the project in your hands, posted where they are seen. Keep them few — few enough that you never need an exception.
