How you approach a thing decides how much of it you can see.

Lin is the higher overlooking the lower — naturally a posture of looking down, yet the text praises approach in full measure: truly walking up close. From afar you get only outlines; details require nearness — and the one who nears while judging will be shown only the presentable parts. The craft of approach is softening the height you carry.

There is also approach with understanding: seeing clearly without intervening. To see is not immediately to correct. Many things need to be witnessed, not handled. Attention carried with goodwill has power of its own — it makes people willing to show what is not yet formed.

Advance in earnest for the next eight months; after that the tide turns and smaller format wins. Spend the high water deliberately.
